2012 – Crime Thriller Awards - WINNERS

2012 – Crime Thriller Awards

(BBC Sherlock takes away three prizes!)

The 21st century has seen a rapid increase in the revival of past hypes – James Bond, for example, but more notably that of Sherlock Holmes. With several new on screen versions as well as many new books by ardent admirers of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle bursting into life and vying with their peers, it seems that in the realm of criminology only Sherlock Holmes can fit the bill, even in the 21st century.

At this year’s Specsavers Crime Thriller Awards, ‘Sherlock’ triumphed with the lead actor, Benedict Cumberbatch, his supporting actor, Martin Freeman and the series itself each taking away a dagger. The most successful program of the day, it now adds the three trophies to its many other awards – including a trio of Baftas. For Sherlock fans everywhere, it reflects the efforts of Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat in creating a show abundant with the essence of Doyle’s original work, yet scintillating with originality and new ideas. Were Conan Doyle here today, there is no doubt that he would be amazed to find his work still such an active part of the world today – in fact as a whole industry, developing and refreshing – and there is little argument, too, that he would not be proud of the work of Team Sherlock, BBC. Well done, Team Sherlock!

Cheltenham Festival

Cheltenham Festival – BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH TALKS SHERLOCK

Have any questions about BBC Sherlock?

For example, what does lead actor Benedict Cumberbatch like most about filming the series, or what was in Molly’s present to Sherlock in A Scandal In Belgravia?

For all those Sherlockians who could not be there, I empathise entirely. For those who went, you are all lucky people!

Elementary - PBS

Elementary, the new series that aired recently in America, had had early speculators grinning. For most people, the episodes have been as bad as expected, if not worse. However, for the rest of the world, the reviews are being hungrily devoured as the waiting game continues for a release date.

Meanwhile, the BBC Sherlock team have been surprisingly nice about the rival series, stating that they wish them the best of luck (albeit cynically). A wonderful review for Elementary can be read here: http://buddy2blogger.blogspot.com.au/2012/09/review-cbs-elementary-pilot-episode.html

Please feel free to post your own reviews/opinions on PBS’s Elementary if you wish! Those who have not seen it yet will no doubt value them greatly!
