2012 – Crime Thriller Awards - WINNERS
2012 – Crime Thriller Awards
(BBC Sherlock takes away three prizes!)
The 21st century has seen a rapid increase in the
revival of past hypes – James Bond, for example, but more notably that of Sherlock
Holmes. With several new on screen versions as well as many new books by ardent
admirers of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle bursting into life and vying with their
peers, it seems that in the realm of criminology only Sherlock Holmes can fit
the bill, even in the 21st century.
At this year’s Specsavers Crime Thriller Awards, ‘Sherlock’
triumphed with the lead actor, Benedict Cumberbatch, his supporting actor,
Martin Freeman and the series itself each taking away a dagger. The most
successful program of the day, it now adds the three trophies to its many other
awards – including a trio of Baftas. For Sherlock fans everywhere, it reflects
the efforts of Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat in creating a show abundant with
the essence of Doyle’s original work, yet scintillating with originality and
new ideas. Were Conan Doyle here today, there is no doubt that he would be
amazed to find his work still such an active part of the world today – in fact
as a whole industry, developing and refreshing – and there is little argument,
too, that he would not be proud of the work of Team Sherlock, BBC. Well done,
Team Sherlock!

Cheltenham Festival
Cheltenham Festival – BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH TALKS SHERLOCK
Have any questions about BBC Sherlock?
For example, what does lead actor Benedict Cumberbatch like
most about filming the series, or what was in Molly’s present to Sherlock in A Scandal In Belgravia?

Find out in this link to Sherlockology’s latest news: http://www.sherlockology.com/news/2012/10/7/cheltenham-festival-07102012
For all those Sherlockians who could not be there, I
empathise entirely. For those who went, you are all lucky people!

The Series, The Sherlock, The Speculations.

Meanwhile, the BBC Sherlock team have been surprisingly nice
about the rival series, stating that they wish them the best of luck (albeit
cynically). A wonderful review for Elementary can be read here: http://buddy2blogger.blogspot.com.au/2012/09/review-cbs-elementary-pilot-episode.html
Please feel free to post your own reviews/opinions on PBS’s
Elementary if you wish! Those who have not seen it yet will no doubt value them
greatly!

'Is It Nice Not Being Me? It Must Be So Relaxing.'
Firstly, I must apologise for my tardiness in posting. I was completely inundated in what Sherlock would consider 'dull' tasks. However, I am back now and promise to post more frequently. I can now also be contacted via Google+ and Twitter - simply search 'Reena'.
So, back to what we love: Sherlock.
The BBC has announced that Sherlock has received 13 Primetime Emmy Award Nominations. These can be viewed at: http://www.sherlockology.com/news/2012/7/19/emmy-nominations-2012-19072012
Check them out and let me know what you think. Which nominations do you believe they should get Emmys for?
Also, has anyone played the Sherlockology Taxi Jam game? I fouund it highly enjoyable.

Young Sherlock Holmes - Movie Review
Young Sherlock Holmes – Movie Review
Young Sherlock Holmes is a fast-paced adventure involving a teenage Holmes, where the ‘master detective’ meets for the first time John Watson, the boy with aspirations in the medical field who will, in nine years’ time, become his best friend. While the fourteen year-old Holmes is intelligent and bold, both traditional and expert Sherlockians would be justified in their argument that Chris Columbus’ Holmes is perhaps too emotional, and most certainly does not sport the distaste for the ‘softer passions’ which is so essential to this character.
The movie, on the whole, is still both original and thrilling. Centring around Egyptian burial customs and following a plotline similar to that of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Sign Of Four, Young Sherlock Holmes takes viewers on a heart-stopping journey through Victorian London, ending in an epic brain-and-brawn battle between Sherlock Holmes and his arch-enemy, Professor Moriarty. In the end, the day is saved, as per usual, by the unmatchable genius of the Great Detective – Sherlock Holmes.

Sherlock...A Hero To The Kids!

An important part of keeping Sherlockiana alive is introducing Sherlock Holmes to children.
Since this task was taken up, it has continually been a success. Children see the Master Detective as a hero, and many films and stageplays have been adapted throughout the years to bring Holmes into the lives of children.
One of these films is Basil the Great Mouse Detective (above) an animated movie by Walt Disney. Shortly, I will be posting reviews on both this film and other Sherlockian movies, plays, books, etc. that have been adapted for children. If you have heard of any yourself, or particularly like one, please feel free to have your say! You may even post a review or link to a review on your own blog. I'll be happy to hear from you soon!
Benedict Cumberbatch's Holmes seems to have particularly engaged younger audiences. Does anyone else hope that someday we'll see a Holmes in his twenties, about the age he was when we first met him in Doyle's A Study In Scarlet? Technically, fictional characters don't age...so perhaps one day we'll see Sherlock in his RIGHT age! I'll wait for your opinion. It feels strange to say Holmes is a fictional character...the world would be even more amazing if we had him around (I'd even put up with the smiley faces on the wall ;) ).
These are two of my most favourite Paget illustrations of Holmes:

What a sad yet mysterious ending to BBC Season 2! When do you think we'll be sitting back to enjoy the tearful reunions which will no doubt come with Season 3?

I Am NOT Your Housekeeper!
Ah, Mrs. Hudson. You've got to like her. She's always there, running about the house and trying to keep everything under control (pretty difficult, with Mr. Holmes as a tenant). Her relationship with John and Sherlock is somewhat like that of a mother, But sadly, until the BBC series, Mrs. Hudson was mostly a very minor character. What are your thoughts? Should she be getting more attention?
